Kecak dance. If you visit Bali, it will be a dance that should not be missed. This dance is iconic. Even it also known as the most dramatic Balinese dance. The combination between drama and dance makes Kecak dance very meaningful. And in the most case, Kecak dance including kecak fire dance ubud depicts Hindu epic, Ramayana.
A unique thing about this dance is not just about the performance itself. Kecak dance is only performed just before sunset. The sunset is not just giving the beautiful view. It also makes the dance looks more dramatic. The story of Ramayana continues in the night with the light of the torches along with shadows.
Unlike the other Balinese dances, kecak dance bali does not perform with gamelan or the other musical instruments. The musical accompaniment is coming from 150 men or more who voice “chak-achak-achak”. From this voice, this dance known as Kecak dance.
This dance is also very exclusive. It only performed to entertain the foreigners and almost never watched by Balinese, especially Balinese in their villages. At the beginning, Kecak dance is only a trance ritual that was made by male chorus. But in 1930’s, Walter Spies, a German painter and musician worked together with Wayan Limbak, a Balinese dancer and create this dance into a drama.
Although Kecak dance has been performed in several places, kecak and fire dance at uluwatu temple is the only place that you can witness Kecak dance personally. Pura Luhur Uluwatu also known as one of the 9 Balinese main temples and become one of the most visited tourism spots in Bali.
